Retrosheet Game Logs - Most Wanted (July 9, 2003)

For those not aware of Retrosheet, they collect and publish the play-by-play accounts of all games (currently 1974-1983, plus they've managed to get the 1984-1992). They are also targetting the 1947-1973 period, and need some help.

(I seem to remember an Expos season-ticket holder since 1969 who had a scorebook the size of a binder. Some of the missing games are for Montreal games. Anyone know him?)

Anyway, if anyone out there has an account of any of the most wanted games, give the Retrosheet guys a shout.

I'm sure a simple question for most of you: where can we get the same set of event studies for 92-present?

The last few years are available through Ray Kerby's ASS program (http://www.astrosdaily.com/). But data covering most of that period is not available for free (you can buy it from STATS for lots of $$$).

The data sets generated by the Baseball Workshop covering 1992 through the present *might* be available through Retrosheet sometime in the next few years.

Random question on the Retrosheet database. For the seasons that have splits for the players stats, there are always >162 games played by DH's (for AL teams). In the play-by-play database, however, anyone pinch-hitting for a DH is listed as a code "11" for PH not "10" for DH (since pinch hitting for a dh requires the pitcher to bat thereafter in the game). Why, then, are players given credit for a "game" as a dh in both this database and in the baseball-reference.com site when they pinch hit for a dh?
